Qeustion:

“I have read here and there on superuser and it looks like I could have:

Faulty recharge circuitry

Faulty asus eee pc 1005ha battery

Faulty asus ac adapter

How can I be sure to change the right part?

The netbook is an Asus Eee PC 1005 and it looks like it has no calibration tool in bios. The asus eee cp 1005ha battery died from a day to another (last week it lasted 5 hours, now 0 seconds). The netbook works if I connect the powerplug and battery but as soon as I disconnect the powerplug it dies: laptop battery won’t last a single second.

Battery led is blinking like if it is charging. I’ve tried 2 different operating systems (windows 7 and ubuntu) and I get the same result: Battery in charge: 0% even charging for many hours. I think (if I’m lucky) that I’ll get the change to test a friend’s asus power adapter during this week end but I still have no clues.

Asus offered me the chance to repair the netbook under warranty but if they find out that parts are not faulty I’m gonna pay money so I want to be sure that something is really broken and I also have the horror they’ll keep the netbook for a month, scratch it, lose data (I’ll backup it, I know) and other sad things so if I’m sure to solve buying a new battery I’d happily do it… I just want to be sure not to waste money.

”

Solution 1: Since all of the parts are from Asus it is Asus hardware that is at fault. In this situation, I wouldn’t even test he parts individually. Asus is better equipped to test for what is wrong then you are. Just make sure to do the basic troubleshooting steps given to you by Asus support. They can certify that it is not operator error and help you process the warranty service.

I would always expect that laptop warranty service to take upwards of a month. Always ask the service rep for an expected timetable to replacement/repair. Ask if they can send you a replacement laptop battery once they verify the problem. That is the fastest way to get a system back.

Always backup your data before sending out your system and always delete any personal data on the laptop. While the techs probably don’t care what is on there, you never know.

Solution 2:
”

Since the notebook works when plugged in, I would think it is not the asus power adapter.

The adapter is the easiest component to test in isolation. Use a Volt-ohmmeter and see if it is putting out as much DC voltage as it says on the boilerplate.

By using different operating systems, you seem to have reduced the likelihood of faulty software.

Can you swap out your battery with a friend’s Asus laptop battery? Or buy a cheap replacement asus eee pc 1005 battery online? That would eliminate “Faulty Battery.” An extra Asus UX50V Battery would come in handy and you will probably need to replace it before your HDD goes.

If it’s still under warranty, by all means, send it in and let Asus diagnose.”

The primary advantage of a laptop is that it allows the user to bring her computer with her wherever she goes, possibly bringing Internet access as well. However, as computers become more compact and faster, one thing seems to stay constant. The computer will more than likely outlast the laptop battery that powers it. If the battery dies, then the computer isn’t as useful, because it will need to be plugged in at all times in order to function. The way to solve this is to purchase a new battery for the laptop.

Instructions

1 Look at the bottom of your laptop and write down the laptop’s model number and brand. Then remove the battery from its slot and write down the model number of the battery itself and the type such as lithium-ion or nickel metal hydride. The documents that came with the computer, such as the invoice, warranty card or information document, might provide other useful information such as an order number and/or customer number and proof and time of purchase.

2 Check the website of the company that made your computer. If your dell inspiron 1520 battery died before its time, or is still under warranty, you might be able to get a new battery free direct from the manufacturer. If you can’t order it online, locate the company’s customer service phone number and call.

3 Go to the store from which you purchased the computer. Tell the store clerk the information about the computer and see if the store sells replacement batteries. If you purchased an extended warranty plan, it might cover a replacement inspiron 1564 battery.

4 Go to a computer service business with the information about your computer. The clerk or technician might be able to locate one for you or have them in stock.

5 Stores that specialize in electronic services or batteries such as Radio Shack, Batteries Plus or Interstate Batteries might have your laptop battery as well. You can also find some battery companies online.

The battery in a laptop, will usually last anywhere from 18 to 36 months. This span is the expected life of a battery with no extra steps taken by the user. But if you take a little extra time and care of your power source, you might be able to extend the life of your laptop battery or at the very least, improve the performance of the day to day life of about battery.

1 If you are not going to use the laptop for several days, take the vostro 1200 battery out of the computer.

2 Keep the laptop and the battery in a comfortable temperature. Exposure to high heat or extreme cold can damage the battery; not to mention the laptop.

3 Once a month, allow the battery to drain completely. Make sure you have saved all your work and leave no programs open while draining the battery.

4 Be sure to have the power adapter plugged into a surge protector, not just a wall outlet.

5 Do not constantly leave the power adapter plugged in. When the adapter is plugged in, the sony vgp-bps21 battery is constantly being charged. This is taxing on the battery’s life span.

Condition the battery When you purchase your Dell Inspiron Laptop Batteries, charge the Dell battery to 100 percent, discharge it completely, and then fully charge it to 100 percent again to help the laptop battery computer dell laptop remember exactly how much electrical charge it can hold. From then on, you’ll never need to completely discharge the dell vostro 1310 battery again, but always make sure when charging it that you let it reach 100 percent. DeHoop told us to “remember to plug in the dell AC adapter (or dock/port replicator) whenever you get a chance. Most notebooks will recharge quickly.” Salinas had another tip for your batteries: “Keep them cool. Exposure to high temperatures can be a dell xps m1530 battery ‘s worst enemy,” he said.

Decrease hard drive activity To minimize the frequency with which your hard disk has to spin up to access data, Salinas recommended defragmenting your hard drive regularly. This optimizes the placement of data on the drive so that it can be found more quickly. You can find the Disk Degfragmenter in the Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools menu. Beyond that, he advised optimizing Windows’ paging file, which is an area of the hard drive that serves as virtual memory whenever your RAM is full. To change it, go to the Control Panel and click through System/Advanced/Performance Settings/Advanced/Virtual Memory Change and set both the initial and maximum paging file size to 1.5 times the capacity of the installed memory.

Disable startup items Startup items load into memory every time Windows boots up, which causes other open applications to spill over into virtual memory and adds to the CPU load. You can disable the startup options by opening the associated programs and going to the Options or Preferences menu. You can also remove them from the Start/Programs/Startup folder or by clicking Start/Run, entering C:MSCONFIG, and clicking OK. Select the Startup tab and clear the checkbox beside any unnecessary background items, like qttask (QuickTime).

Don’t use any external devices. USB and PC-Cards (aka PC-MCIA) use your dell xps m1330 battery to function, even when you aren’t using them! Have an EVDO card or maybe a USB mouse? Remove them if you can. Even a memory card reader in your PC-MCIA slot uses power just by being in there. The effect varies based on the type of device, but even a few minutes here and there (as you’ll see) add up significantly.

Power down the display “You can often yield up to ten minutes of dell laptop battery life per level of brightness lowered,” said Salinas. DeHoop added that lowering the brightness “may give you as much as an extra hour of runtime.” In addition, lowering the screen resolution and color depth decreases the workload on the GPU, thus extending the battery runtime. You can change these by going to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Display and clicking the Settings tab. Disabling extra features like ClearType fonts and fade effects will cut down on the CPU’s power consumption. You can find these in the Control Panel under System/Advanced/Performance Settings/Visual Effects.

Single-task, not multi-task. The more you are doing at the same time with your PC, the more memory and CPU usage increases. Both of which directly use up dell inspiron 1525 battery. Close any applications you aren’t using, even the small ones. When doing some experimentation, I found it more efficient to run a single application at a time, then close it and open a new one when ready to move on. While your hard drive uses the battery too, if you are doing anything ‘productive’ you are probably hitting the drive on a regular (even if infrequent) basis anyway.

Turn off unused devices Both of our gurus mentioned disabling unused devices. Many new notebooks provide a hard-wired On/Off switch for the Wi-Fi radio for this reason. Beyond that, you should go to the Control Panel, select System/Hardware/Device Manager, and disable the Ethernet adapter, infrared transceiver, and Bluetooth radio (if your notebook has one). It was designed for mobile devices, but having Bluetooth enabled actually consumes quite a bit of power.

Keep it cool. You can take a page out of the extreme gamer’s handbooks, and have your system perform more optimally by keeping it cool. Make sure your air vents (inflow and outflow) aren’t blocked by anything, which often occurs by poorly positioning your notebook on your lap (which is known to have some other side-effects too, by the way). Heavy CPU and memory use all contribute to heat as well, hence my comment on multi-tasking above.

According to Dell, the battery in your notebook should last somewhere between 18 to 24 months before you see a drop in its performance. After that, you’ll likely notice that the battery’s charge won’t last as long as before. When this happens, you should consider switching the old battery out for a new one. The process is simple and should only take you a few minutes to complete. Read on to learn how to change a Dell laptop battery.

 Instructions

 * 1 Make sure your replacement Dell studio 1535 battery is ready to go by taking it out of its packaging and placing it somewhere nearby.

 * 2 Save any open files on which you’re working. Since turning the system off isn’t required when changing the battery, this is more of a precaution than a necessity.

 * 3 Plug your Inspiron AC adapter into a nearby wall socket. Then, connect the end of the adapter cable to your notebook’s power socket.

 * 4 Turn your notebook over and find the dell xps m1530 battery latch. Slide the latch into the release position and pull out the old battery.

 * 5 Install the new Dell battery by simply popping it into place. The alignment of the studio 1535 battery should be easy to figure out, since there’s only one side of it that connects to the receptor pins in your notebook’s battery bay.

 * 6 Make sure the battery latch pops back into the locked position. If it’s jammed in the unlocked position, gently wiggle the battery back and forth to pop it back.

* 7 Keep your notebook plugged in to the wall socket in order to charge the new laptop battery. You can check the status of its charge by clicking on the system tray icon shaped like a battery.

Customer Reivew

I bought this to replace my 1 year old dell vostro 1710 batteries. At first, I did some research to compare this battery with the ones sold by Dell. There wasn’t much information on the internet regarding Replacement batteries. Diggingshop.com is a battery manufacturer. I decided to try these out because the price was within my budget;

Performance:

This Replacement dell vostro 1710 battery is as good as the Dell-Branded ones made by Sanyo Corporation. I get roughly 3-4 hours out of it with WiFi on, screen dimmed, and moderate web-surfing. I am dual-booting Windows 7 RC 7100 and Windows Vista. I get about 20-35 minutes more with Windows 7. I think the new Operating System is much more efficient with managing windows resources compared to the bloated Vista.

I hope this review helps someone that’s deciding on buying replacement batteries. Dell batteries are clearly overpriced.

Let’s see…an original 56Wh Dell T118C battery (this is NOT a third-party knock-off) for 1/3 Dell’s price. What’s not to love about this deal?! Whether or not it provides enough endurance is your call. As an Vostro 1710 owner, I can say this battery provides about 3 hrs of power. If you want about 4.5-5hrs, go for a nine-cell.

Toshiba has come a long way when it comes to the laptop battery life in their laptops, but that does not make them immune to the occasional hiccup. Poor charging practices can cause issues with battery life, and power-sucking settings can deplete a charged battery, especially an older one, at a surprising rate. For many Toshiba laptops, even temperature can affect whether and how your battery charges and discharges.

Charging New Batteries

1. If your laptop is brand new, you have an opportunity to maximize your battery’s health from the get-go. CNET authors Asher Moses and Brian Nadel state that long-term battery vitality can be ensured if “when first using your notebook on battery power, [you] let the battery completely drain before you recharge it. Don’t recharge when the toshiba PA3615U-1BRS battery is only half drained. Do that for at least the first two sessions.” If you continue to do this every time you use your laptop battery, you will extend the length of time your laptop can run on battery power.

Power Settings

2. One of the main reasons toshiba laptop battery life is so short on many laptops is because of the power settings. You can access the power settings on a Toshiba either by right-clicking the battery tray icon in the lower-right corner of your screen and click “Power Options”, or by going to Control Panel > Power Options. Here, you can select the settings your computer will use when it is running on battery power, adjust when the display turns off, choose when the computer will go to sleep, and decide how bright your display is. The default “Power Saver” settings adjust the display brightness to about 40%, turn off the display after 3 minutes of inactivity and put the computer to sleep after 15 minutes. Think about which settings make the most sense for you, and adjust your computer accordingly to save power.

Temperature

3. Extreme temperatures can negatively affect your toshiba PA3399U-2BRS battery. According to Moses and Nadel, you should not expose your battery to extreme heat or cold. Heat causes batteries to lose their charge very quickly and cold batteries don’t perform as well. In addition, some Toshiba laptop batteries can detect when they have heated up too much, and will not charge even when the AC power is plugged in. The computer will display “AC power plugged in; battery not charging,” in this case. If this happens, you can charge the battery by shutting down your computer and letting the battery charge while the computer is off.

Age

4. Laptop batteries generally last for 2 to 3 years. If your laptop battery is not holding a charge and it is older than 3 years, consider purchasing a new battery. Remember to fully deplete and fully charge the new battery the first few times you use it.

Still Not Charging

5. If you have considered all of these possible Toshiba PA3535U-1BRS battery problems and find that they are not the reason for the problem, try taking the battery out and gently cleaning the contacts on the battery and in the laptop’s battery compartment with a dry, lint-free cloth. If there is no improvement, you may need to look into updating the computer’s BIOS or using the recovery CD that came with the laptop to clear any internal problems that may be affecting your battery.

Customer Review :

I purchased this No-Name battery for my home e6400 laptop. Later I placed this dell latitude e6400 battery side-by-side my co-workers Dell-branded e6400 batteries. Every molding nuance was identically replicated – ejector pin placement, gating, parting lines, flash, texture, label blank size & placement, etc. For those knowing nothing about plastics, it means the housing for this Dell and No-Name came off the same mold. When this battery eventually dies, I’ll dismantle it and compare the internals to a Dell-branded battery. After a month of ownership this No-Name battery maintains a 3+ hour charge.

Not much to say,

I was afraid not buying the original dell latitude e6400 battery – for no good reason.

This battery does exactly what it is supposed to do for 1/3 of the price (compared to original dell battery).

This battery had no problems connecting and entered smoothly. I am getting about and average of 3.5 hours of laptop battery life while my laptop does some crazy multitasking. I have not had any problems yet and hope not to but for now it has been great for the price. I will try to update in a month on its condition.

Question: “I’ve got a dell inspiron b120 laptop. It will not run on AC power. I know the dell inspiron b120 battery is getting bad, and I’m sure it’s dead now, but it won’t even boot up with AC power. I checked the voltage on the adapter and it is correct. If the battery is in the laptop when I plug it in, the battery light blinks twice and that’s it. The connection is good on the laptop. I’ve tried the hard reset, nothing. The green lights are the only signs of life, no fans, drive, nothing. I’d really appreciate the help. ”

Solution:”

Now you will need to make a note of the type of Inspiron B120 Battery you have and exactly, I repeat exactly how it is connected (wired) to each other. Just to be sure you could test your old batteries with a millimeter or similar device to see just what state they are in. If you touch these leaking batteries then dispose of them appropriately and then make sure you wash your hands thoroughly and you’re back in business. After confirming that they are in fact dead laptop batteries you will need to order some replacement laptop batteries. To do this ensure the replacement have a higher milliamp value than the old ones, just slightly. When you receive your replacement laptop batteries put the new batteries in the correct positions and replace the wiring so you can do the necessary soldering. Make sure to use the appropriate safety equipment and double check all connections are correct. Once your laptop batteries are in place and everything confirmed you should test them with your millimetre to ensure they are working as expected.

Well, consider replacing the internal batteries at a fraction of the cost of the alternatives methods. So, do not condemn your dell b130 battery to the recycle bin just for the moment. Using this method could see you saving yourself between 30-90% of the cost of your replacement laptop battery. This cheap alternative method is to substitute the batteries inside the battery pack with a brand new set. You first need to remove the battery pack from your laptop. You will then need to open the battery pack carefully, a screwdriver should do the job. Inside you will be confronted with several batteries and a host of wires. A word of warning, if any battery is leaking proceed carefully. If you are not sure then do not continue.

Simply follow the instructions below and save yourself some money. It will only cost you the time it takes to complete the list below. So do yourself a favour and do it yourself.

1. Place a dead dell inspiron 1300 battery in a completely sealed plastic bag.

2. Place the bag and battery in your freezer for between 11-14 hours.

3. Remove the bag from your freezer and allow the battery return to room temperature after taking it out of the bag, this is very important.

4. If your laptop batteries are still damp dry it using a cloth or towel.

5. Place your once dead laptop batteries back into your laptop.

6. Now completely charge your battery then leave it on to discharge it completely. Repeat this step at least 3-4 times. 7. Your dead battery should be much more usable, if not totally restored.

Reassemble the Dell B120 Battery pack and seal it properly. Re-install the laptop battery into your laptop and start enjoying your laptop’s new lease of life.

These methods are great for batteries that are completely or almost dead and you save them from the recycling bin.

http://www.diggingshop.com/laptop-battery/dell-inspiron-b120.htm
