Maximize your laptop battery life

When I first got my laptop 1 year ago , my laptop battery life was about 3 hours. Now after daily use (mostly with plug but using battery as well) it is down to 1.5 hrs which is basically useless. SO I am buying a new dell d620 battery from diggingshop.com?the battery shop suggest:

It turns out that the single, most important aspect to maximizing a laptop battery life is something that I wouldn’t have thought of: matching the battery to its charger. In the diggingshop.com’s words: “Make sure your laptop battery and adapter match and you have a quality adapter.”

The number two factor in laptop battery life? Temperature.

A concern that I’ve had for a long time is whether or not leaving a laptop plugged in for extended periods of time would harm the battery. Today’s designs pretty much expect that type of usage, so it’s not the issue I was afraid it might be. Good thing, too … my laptop is plugged in and running pretty much 24×7.
Finally: “Dont use laptop battery if it is not necessary because every charge/discharge time may shorten hp compaq batterys life. .”

How to extend dell laptop battery life? Here are some more tips to improve your notebook’s battery life:
1. If you do not use your laptop for extended periods of time (a week or more), remove the dell xps m1330 battery pack from the laptop.

When you choose Start, Turn Off Computer in Windows XP, your options are Stand By, Turn Off, and Restart. To Hibernate, place the cursor over Stand By, then hold down Shift and click.
